Steam engine w/chain drive what is it?

A fellow just contacted me and showed me his steam engine. What is it and where was it used? It has a 3" bore x 4"stroke and looks to be a stationary engine.

The engine has a reversing lever that slides in and out of the steam chest on the "forward" right end. One said that it could have been an anchor engine for hoisting a shop's anchor. Mr. Taylor plans on using the engine in a steam car.

Whenever I see these beautiful old engines I am amassed at the fine workmanship and simplicity and forethought of the design.
The main bearing housing, crosshead and cylinder being all one casting.
I am guessing that the standoff feet under the bearings are bolted on, or two separate patterns would have been made.

Hard to tell without seeing it in person, but I think that's a donkey engine. I've seen very similar ones in logging museums, and I came across one abandoned in the bush while fighting a forest fire in the 1960's. Flywheel was about five times as big as the engine.
