Dear Pat, I was wondering if you might alert the SACA NW members to the upcoming Stanley Museum 7th Consignment Auction, scheduled for Friday, July 9, 2010, at 10:00 am in Kingfield, Maine. This year we will be starting the auction in the morning - a boon for folks overseas who may be following the auction online - since we expect this to be our largest auction ever. We have over 425 lots consigned, including 5 running steam cars (PDF attached):

Lot 124: 1910 Stanley Model 70 20hp 5-passenger Touring Car
Lot 125: 1911 Stanley Model 63 10hp 4-passenger Toy Tonneau
Lot 125A: 1903 Grout Brothers 10hp Side Tiller Steer 2-passenger Roadster
Lot 126: 1924 Stanley Model 750B 20hp 7-passenger Touring Car
Lot 126A: 1920 Stanley Model 735 Rebodied with a 1916 Woods Dual Power Body

(the last two cars you may have seen advertised extensively; they have recently been consigned to our auction)

We also have a dozen engines to be auctioned, ranging from early Locomobile, Grout, and Mason engines, to early Stanleys, a fine group of 20hp Stanleys, and a pristine 30hp Stanley engine that has allegedly seen very little use as a laboratory generator - never been used in a car - as "factory fresh" as one could imagine.

There are also hundreds of parts, gauges, fittings, and an impressive collection of early steam journals, vintage photos, and other literature. Should be a fascinating auction. There is more information on registering and absentee bidding on the auction page on our website at www.stanleymuseum.org. The catalogue itself will be a collector's item, and can now be ordered through the Stanley Museum at maine@stanleymuseum.org. You can follow the auction live via Proxibid (more info on the website).

Regards,

Jim Merrick, Archivist

We expect the online (Proxibid) catalogue to be up shortly, and we will have a link to it on the Stanley Museum website. This year's auction will again be administered by Keenan Auction Co. and they will have live access through the Proxibid auction service. - Jim Merrick

The online catalogue for the Stanley Museum Auction is now up on the Proxibid website: [www.proxibid.com] and all items are now open for bidding. If that link doesn't work, you can go directly to the website at www.proxibid.com and look up the auctioneer, Keenan Auction Company, where it should be listed under their upcoming auctions. You can also find a link to the catalogue on the auctioneer's site at www.keenanauction.com. We hope to have a link to the online catalogue on the Stanley Museum website shortly as well. - Jim

The Stanley Museum's 2010 Auction is now in the history books. With the 10% sales commission added, the 1910 Model 70 sold for $154K plus state taxes. The right bidders to buy the other cars listed were not present, so the other steamers did not meet their reserves. Type 7 Stanley condensing 20 hp engines sold from $1,300 to $2,900. The low mileage 30 hp 1911- 1912 engine sold for $16K. Bidders were eager to buy maintenance parts for their Stanleys. On the average, prices for various steam car parts were running high. Just a throttle stem part for a White steamer sold for $450. The auction never had a slow moment, and it was fun to be part of it.
