When I was working as a mechanic in a sports car shop (early '60s), there was a fair amount of disagreement over leaf spring treatment. Some were in favour of oil, some said "Leave em alone - oil will make them wear out faster and break more easily". What's the common wisdom among Stanley owners?

IMOP........ I oil my Stanley's springs with gun oil in a spray can. The lubricant prevents rust, lubricates to reduce wear, and reduces squeeks.
