Fuel Gauge sealing

Hi,
Sure glad this Forum is going to continue on!
So, on my 1918 735 Stanley I removed the non functioning fuel gauge from the right side of the fuel tank. The reason it was not working was fairly evident, big holes in the float and a seized up mechanism. Funny, I had thought it was working for the 13 years I have owned the car. I would fill up the tank, tap on the gauge, and the needle would swing to full. I would drive a bit, fill it up again and tap again until it came to full. It only seemed to have two positions, empty and full. I now know that it was never really functional!
So, I now have it fixed and would like to put it back in, but am wondering what the correct sealant to use around the gauge where it fits into the tank, as it is below the full point in the tank? I would like something that seals, but would also allow for somewhat easy disassembly.
Thanks,
Eric

With a pipe thread, I would use Teflon tape. Be conservative with it so to keep it out of the fuel system.
