Stanley DX - New Project

Well, I did it. The DX is home in my garage. I'm not researching and planning for how we'll get this car going and how it will be preserved.

I'm currently looking for info on the pump pit configuration. It's rocker shafts is mounted rearward, not like many of the EX's. Pumps at "angles" are just sitting there and what is mounted may not be correct. Any help or any pictures of other pump boxes from early cars (CX, The only G, The Lyman E Tiller, etc) would be great appreciated.

This car has a lot to tend to, but a worthy car to resurrect. The only DX!

Fantastic survivor! Congratulations! Save as much of the original patina that you can because once it is painted over, it is gone forever.

Best I can determine from studying this pit is that it had a single larger bore driven water pump and fuel pump. It appears that the hand pumps were 2 separate pumps you would switch the handle to use, either fuel or water. And the oil pump may have been mounted to another small board and mounted to the 4 holes to the left possibly. The rocker shaft at the back has the arms at the wrong locations, but NOTHING is pointing towards this pump pit ever being drastically changed from original.

It will be interesting to keep looking at this.

The hand pumps seem as though they had a bracket on the cross member, one on each side of it (bracket on the opposite side as the pump) for the handle pivot. This matches with the floor board slots properly.

Very exciting car to investigate.

The front seat has been replaced/remade as it seems to have been missing. There is no slot but I believe the throttle would have also be on the inside of the seat. The next interesting thing to determine is the throttle linkage, location, and connections.

Tom, The number plate appears to be authentic and it matched the stamped floor boards with serial number 1862. This technically makes it a 1906 car but all features point to 1905. I suspect it could have been the "prototype" for the DX 4 Passenger and maybe sat around the factory, then later stamped and sold in 1906?

It's terribly interesting. While it's not all 100% there, it's a great piece and I think we can make it a good preservation and running car. We'll see!

Excellent!! Rolly - Where is this car? Per the register - my car was the only DX known, but I'm very curious about this car. If you have any other pictures I would really like to see them all! Not just the pump pit. Thanks!

Rolly,

Tried to send you an email and it was returned. If you still have my email, can you send me a note?

Interesting. That flat hood and the car are actually my DX car, but the pump pit pictures you sent are not.

They were changing things pretty fast back then, might be like the model G

Yep, no 2 alike for the cars in some times. Hopefully I can get some pictures from Allen on the G to compare as well.
