Locomobile front sprocket

Hi all,
We are working on a 1899-1900 Locomobile that has a broken crankshaft. One of the contributing factors to the break might be the size of the chain drive sprocket, it barely clears the bolt that ties the engine frame together below the crankshaft, and wear indicates that the sprocket and the chain, rubbed on the bolt for some time before the crankshaft broke. The car is equipped with a modern roller chain, the front sprocket has 16 teeth. We are planning on getting a smaller sprocket, but were wondering how many teeth were in the original setup of the car?
Thanks, Eric
