<HTML>Prof. Stumpf in his books on uniflow engines did an analysis of the subject. In particular, he advocated using the first blast from one cylinder to induce a vacuum in a cylinder whose exhaust ports were about to close. The tecnique was used in several locomotives built at that time, with considerable success.</HTML>
