It looks to me to be a 1900-1903 type 2 Locomobile engine. Stanley used chain drive in their very first few Stanleys but they had to change over to gear drive because Locomobile still held the patent on the chain drive components that they used.

What about the banding on the locomobile cylinders? Everything else does look pretty similar.
