<HTML>I have seen many posts going off thread to end up with a discussion of crankshaft design. If I am not mistaken it has all been tried before, it is in my books. For the best collection of crankshaft designs beyond the conventional, I would look at those tried by builders of Stirling engines of the modern era. Phillips did much work here as well as many others after them to provide a crankshaft action that most effectively uses the power stroke. Andy Ross has a very informative book listing several working designs, I think the title is "Making Stirling Engines". It is not easy to find but I think Andy Ross can be contacted to help find a copy. Andy Ross successfully installed a Stirling engine on a bicycle, a marvel of a machine and it only took about a decade to build it.
Though these crank designs are intriguing, the stirling engine has very little torque and the designs may not be suitable to size for the load of a steam engine.
<HTML>I am looking for some information on crankshaft design for a degree project. If you could please give us more information, as book names, or other directions, we would thank you.</HTML>
