<HTML>A new cast iron burner has just been purchased by a friend of mine. It is a 24 inch 20 H P . I would be grateful if anyone could give me some suggestions as to size of holes, spacing, methods of drilling, etc, all without being too rude.
In Anticipation

<HTML>I drilled my burner grate with a # 54 drill bit and 6000 holes. This gives me about 15.25 square inch of burn area. Some of the slotted burners with .025 slots have any where from twenty to as much as thirty square inch of burn area. My boiler is a 23-inch’s. I made up a magnetic base drill press stand and mounted a Dremel tool as a drill motor. Run the drill at about 20,000 RPM. I used jobber bits for .20 each and averaged about seventy-five holes per bit. I have six rows of holes per bar about 3/16 inch apart. It took about four nights after work to finish.</HTML>
