1899 Grout Drop Front Steam Runabout
Believed to be oldest surviving Grout. Fairly complete, unrestored car.
Has new boiler, new burner pan, and rebuilt throttle. Steam and fuel automatics and original conical check valves.
Factory altered (custom order?) to hold more water. Body lengthened and rear springs and rear axle re-enforced.
Despite Beverly Rae Kimes describing Grout as a "most frenetic company', numerous pre-1900 publications show Grout cars and pictures of the Orange, Mass. factory. Later Grouts won many reliability runs and hill climbs. Missing side light, gauges, and hand pumps, other small parts. Asking $36,000.00
