<HTML>I recently ran across a complete engine, owner says it is a Stanley....

It has about 3" cylinders, stands 19 in tall with chain sproket drive, it is

fully functional with air pressure, and appears too have no wear. It was

saved as a curiosity for 90 years? Would appreciate any help in

identification of this engine or anyone interested in appraising/purchasing

same?

<HTML>Hi,,, First, No Stanley s had 3 cylenders,,,they were all 2 cyl,,,Second, only a few Stanleys had chain drive,,,but the more common early LOCOMOBILE used chain,,,the small size suggests also LOCO,,,,Can you describe the chain size and sproket dimentions,,,How many things attach to the crankshaft,,,and to describe the engine frame,,,There will be interest in the engine,,,but diferent models will attract different people, who may be restoring different models or years,,,,What continent are you on,,and if in the states, whereabouts,,,Cheers Ben,,in Maine</HTML>

<HTML>Al,

Can you rotate the engine by hand to measure the stroke? Can you post some digital photos of views from several angles? Some additional dimensions would also help such as overall width, height and length, centre to centre distance of cylinders etc. What type of valve linkage is fitted.

There were a lot of different engines of this type made in the early 1900s but many should have had a name or number on the castings. Others could advise where to look for this to eliminate, or confirm, easy IDs.

If it is as old as you indicate, and complete in good working condition, it has some good value as an historical engine and this will have some upward variation if it is a low production model.
