1918 Stanley Steamer model 736 Info?

Hello,

I am the owner of a 1918 Model 736 Staney and I am having a difficult time finding information on it since it seems like its a bit rare. The only information I was able to find is at this link (http://www.stanleyregister.net/YearModel.html) which shows that it has a more slanted body than the 735, a top that does not protrude past the spare tire, and also the spare is slanted forward instead of vertical like the 735, and also that its a 4 passenger.

Aside from those things, it seems like it was only made in 1918, and based on the lack of information on it, it seems as though it might be quite a bit more rare than I thought it was. I'm curious at this point if anyone knows how many model 736s were built and what the rarity of the 736 would do for the value of it. I had someone approach me recently who is interested in buying it and I may sell it but want to make sure the price is fair. Any help or guidance on its value or other info would be greatly appreciated.

Also, assuming the odometer is correct... it appears that the car has less than 16,000 miles on it.

Here are a few pictures of my car which is serial # 18886-

I can’t remember ever hearing the number 736 used before. According to the list of Joe and Rhoda Green published in Kit Foster’s book there were 388 - 735 built and on the following page is a list from Hardman, Keith J, giving a total production of 498 cars built in 1918. There is also a listing of Model 735D for 1918. That looks like not two many were built and much less have survived.
The only place I see Model 736 listed is Appendix B page 460 four passenger Touring. 3600 Lb Empty.
Good looking shape.

When Calvin Williams listed this car in the 1957 Register of Antique Automobiles produced by the AACA, HCCA, and VMCCA, he also called it a 736. It matches a catalog picture (small image at [www.StanleyRegister.net] ). It's interesting that all four 736's on record have serial numbers that fall after a large gap in the 1918 sequence.

I wonder about the condenser. Most 1918 cars and several 1919 have the sharp-pointed version. I know this didn't give the best service - perhaps on this car it was replaced with the more reliable flat one. The slight mismatch of body panel contours where the hood and condenser meet could be evidence of this.

By the way, Art Hart has graciously given me access to his complete collection of scanned Stanley sales catalogs; I hope to have a full set of reference images on that web page soon.

Kit Fosters book page 504 right column, bottom.
By Harold F Young driver and mechanic Philadelphia branch of Stanley Co.
But mostly calling on owners of 1918 cars. We had package deals to make change over to the new condenser and began to have a waiting list.
Much more, Good reading.

HI As compared to a 1922 735,, the distance from the hood to the cowl/windshield is shorter,,but the Currier Cameron curve to the windshield stansion seems to be there,,the front seat seems plain, w/ no cowl as the '22 has,,The slope of the body rear does not seem familiar to me,,The doors are full size,,shortning that front part I think should make more room somewhere aft,,but I don't see where,,Interesting spot for the windshield cleaner too,,,All for now,,Ben
